We have been to the south rim of the Grand Canyon 18 years ago and went back today. The big difference between the first visit and today is the mode of transportation. We took the Grand Canyon Railway to and from the Canyon, a luxury experience we don't take often. As the driver on this trip, I really appreciated not having to keep an eye on the road and being able on focusing on the scenery. The sixty mile ride took us from arid high desert terrain to one of the largest Ponderosa Pine forests in the US.

Grand Canyon National Park is one of the most visited parks in the country with visitors from all over the world. One of the problems with this popularity is the traffic congestion. We have been told that the rangers occasionally close the entrance because there are just too many cars and people. For those seniors reading this, we were told that if you have an National Park Pass, they will let you in even if the entrance is closed.

There is really not much to say about the Grand Canyon... I will let the pictures speak for themselves. The one problem in the canyon is the haze, mostly caused by pollution. It was not as bad today compared to what it was when we visited north rim a few years ago when it was difficult to see the south rim.

	A California Condor, part of a group of three that flew over us near Grand Canyon Village. The California Condor was nearly extinct. Currently there are about 80 in the Canyon. To see three condors flying in one spot is amazing.
The Hopi House in Grand Canyon Village is not an old ruin. It was built over 100 years ago using native labor under the direction of architect Mary Colter. It was modeled after nearby ruins and has low ceilings and even lower doorways.	Grand Canyon Railway Depot is one of the few log depots constructed in the US

As Seen on the Road If you are going to hike in the Grand Canyon you have to carry your own supplies. This little pooch was carrying water, food and a bowl.
